About

This site is a creation of Bram Hubbell. Liberating Narratives began as Paperless History in 2016. In January of 2019, I renamed the site. The new title and design of the site pay homage to Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed. You can read more about the name change on this post. The site is my place to write about how we can challenge Eurocentric interpretations of and decolonize world history pedagogy in the high school classroom. I’ve taught world history at Friends Seminary in New York City since 2001, which has been an incredible place to teach world history. About forty years ago, Jean Johnson introduced world history to Friends Seminary. I’ve been fortunate to since work at Friends Seminary with a number of educators dedicated to world history. I also was involved with the curriculum design and test development of AP World History from 2008 to 2013. You can email me here.
